London North Centre - Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Small Business Terence Kernaghan is concerned that this Thanksgiving, too many families cannot afford the basics, and too many small businesses are barely staying afloat.
Food prices are up. Rent is up. Operating costs are crushing small businesses, and at the same time, working people are being priced out of their own communities. Families are being forced to make difficult choices between essentials like groceries and rent. Small business owners, the heart of our main streets, are taking on more debt just to keep their doors open.
“We need policies that support both families and small businesses because when local businesses succeed, communities thrive,” Kernaghan said. “That means investing in affordability, stable housing, and targeted supports that help small businesses grow and hire within their neighbourhoods. A strong economy does not leave people behind—it lifts everyone up.”
