QUEEN'S PARK – Following Unifor Stellantis workers voting 97 per cent in favor of a strike mandate amid stalled contract negotiations, Leader of the Official Opposition, Marit Stiles, and NDP Shadow Minister for Labour, Jamie West (Sudbury), released the following statement:
"Once again, we are seeing thousands of Ontario's auto workers and industry face uncertainty about their future, due to this Premier's lack of action," said Stiles. "Stellantis must honour its commitments to Ontario and protect good, unionized jobs, including at the Brampton assembly plant. Doug Ford needs to stop neglecting Ontario workers and do everything in his power to protect Ontario's auto sector, the workers and their families who depend on it."
"Ontario's auto workers have built this province, and they deserve a premiere that will fight alongside them," said MPP West. "A 97 per cent strike mandate is no joke, and it shows how united these workers are in demanding a fair deal. Stellantis must come to the table in good faith, honour its commitments to Brampton workers, and protect the good jobs that communities depend on.”
