QUEEN’S PARK — Marit Stiles, Leader of Ontario’s Official Opposition NDP, is calling on Premier Doug Ford to work with Prime Minister Mark Carney in coming up with a plan to bring Stelco under public ownership, and keep good jobs in Ontario while fighting Trump’s tariffs:
“Enough is enough,” said Stiles. “Ontario can no longer stand on the sidelines while American companies leave us high and dry. We need to take control of our economic future.
“Earlier today, I wrote to Doug Ford, asking him to make good on his past remarks about buying Stelco. We are in a unique moment in history. This moment demands bold, ambitious, and urgent action. We must put ideology aside and put Ontario workers first.
“We don’t make this call lightly, but Ontario cannot sit back while our industrial capacity is dismantled. Inaction has already resulted in hundreds of layoffs across the province. If we fail to act, we risk more than good paying, unionized jobs; we lose decades of expertise and industrial capacity.
"The best time to act has passed. The second-best time is now. Doug Ford needs to put his money where his mouth is and protect good Ontario jobs.”
