QUEEN'S PARK — Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition Ontario NDP, and MPP Chris Glover (Spadina—Fort York) are calling on Doug Ford to repeal Bill 110 and return lands seized from the City of Toronto, following the federal government grounding the Premier's Billy Bishop plans and the latest comments from his Minister of Transportation:
"It was always clear that this was another half-baked plan from Doug Ford," said Stiles.
"This Premier's obsession with Toronto has gone on long enough. Minister Sarkaria referring to the people who opposed this project as a 'fringe group' is a pathetic insult to the tens of thousands of people who fought back against this ridiculous project.
"Doug Ford didn't get his way, and his Ministers are lashing out at constituents for using their democratic rights.
"We don't need jets in the middle of Toronto. Bill 110 is still law, and Doug Ford has given himself the power to do whatever he wants with Little Norway Park and the Toronto Islands. It's time for the Premier to end this land grab; kill Bill 110, and return these lands to the City of Toronto."
"The federal government's announcement was a postponement rather than a cancellation," said Glover. "The Minister of Transportation said the expansion would not go forward 'at this time.'
“Reported in today’s Toronto Star, a Liberal insider said that a smaller expansion may still go ahead. The people of Toronto need to know that this is not just a temporary reprieve, but a complete cancellation of this ridiculous project.
"Weak promises aren't good enough. Doug Ford cannot be trusted. As long as Bill 110 is law, our community is at risk. The Premier needs to repeal this undemocratic legislation and return the parkland to the City of Toronto."
