OTTAWA – After ministry data showed that the supposed funding boost that Ford and his conservatives trumpeted was actually existing education funding, NDP Shadow Minister for Education, Chandra Pasma (Ottawa West – Nepean) released the following statement:
"Ford’s minister of Education is trying to claim credit for increasing education funding, but moving money from one envelope to another isn’t new investment,” said Pasma. “School boards are still being asked to do more with less, while coping with rising costs and continued uncertainty about critical programs.
“Students deserve real funding that keeps pace with inflation and growing needs. At a time when boards are making staffing and programming decisions for September, the government should be providing real investments in public education. Instead, all this Minister of Education is engaging in accounting tricks."
