QUEEN’S PARK –– Ontario NDP MPP Chris Glover (Spadina––Fort York) slammed Doug Ford for moving to seize large swaths of land in downtown Toronto, including large sections of the Toronto Islands, by way of Bill 110:
"It’s not just Little Norway Park and Billy Bishop Airport,” said Glover. “Bill 110 gives Doug Ford control over lands owned by the City of Toronto –– identified by Property Identification Numbers (PINs) –– including almost all of the Toronto Islands. The island beaches, Hanlon’s Point, Centreville, and the Island School are now all at risk.
“The Premier’s latest land grab reeks of the same tactics we saw with the Greenbelt, Ontario Place, and the Science Centre, making dirty deals so his friends can profit from land that belongs to the people of Ontario. And now, he can do it all in the cover of darkness after exempting himself and his cabinet from freedom of information rules.
“Ford introduced legislation to seize the Toronto Islands an hour after he passed a bill to permanently hide his phone records. What’s is he hiding from the people?
“The Premier could be making life more affordable for working people, but he’d rather pick pointless fights with the City of Toronto. He needs to keep his hands off our public lands and scrap this ridiculous project.”
