QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Housing Catherine McKenney (Ottawa Centre) says that changes made to Ontario’s rental rules by the Ford government are putting tenants at further risk.
“Doug Ford’s attack on renters has come into full force,” said McKenney. “Bill 60 paved the way for corporate landlords to evict renters easier, and now we’re seeing the results.
“80 per cent of evictions are already no-fault. The Premier just opened the door to wealthy corporations driving even more working people, families, seniors, into poverty and homelessness.
“Ontario is seeing crisis levels of unhoused people, with no support coming to help them. With Bill 60, Doug Ford is now rapidly compounding the problem. He needs to start putting hard-working Ontarians ahead of corporate profits, and stop his eight years of attacks on renters.”
