Ford MPPs lose their appeal to work less this summer, NDP votes to continue committee work

QUEEN’S PARK – Ontario NDP MPPs Wayne Gates (Niagara Falls) and Alexa Gilmour (Parkdale – High Park) are calling out the Ford government’s attempts to cut corners and cancel meetings for the Standing Committee on Government Agencies (SCGA):

“Every single PC MPP should be embarrassed for trying to cut corners,” said Gates. “They threw everything at the wall to try and cancel committee meetings so they could spend more time at their cottages and less time doing the job that voters hired them for.”

“Doug Ford shut down the legislature for 21 weeks and boasted about how his MPPs will still keep working through committees,” added Gilmour. “But his MPPs could not zip out of here fast enough. At any other job, this would get you fired.”

“While the Ford government wants to find short cuts to appoint their friends, we know that SCGA is one of the few ways we can keep holding this government to account for their patronage. No wonder they tried to shut it down.”

“We fought back against their shenanigans and won,” added Gates. “The important work that SCGA does will now continue and New Democrats will keep showing up because that’s the job Ontarians hired us for.”
