Ending Gender Based Violence on Campus

Published on March 15, 2022

London was  badly  shaken by multiple reports of sexual violence on Western University’s campus during Orientation Week. Whether you’re a new student on campus or someone who gathers downtown with friends, you deserve to know that you will be safe from sexual harassment and violence.

Students have been calling for change for years and deserve to be heard to ensure everyone in our community feels safe and respected. I’ve been honoured to join to fantastic folks at Safe Campus Coalition and University Students' Council at Western University who are petitioning the provincial government to support survivors of gender-based and sexual violence.

I wholeheartedly support their call for upstream prevention education and sexual violence policies that take a trauma-informed and survivor-centric approach. In a proactive way, students from K-12 will learn about consent and safe relationships in an incremental manner guided by research-based sources and experts.
