Ford’s cuts are hurting families with longer child care wait times

LONDON — After concerning reports of childcare services continuing to be neglected by Ford’s government, NDP Shadow Minister for Child Care and Pensions Teresa Armstrong (London—Fanshawe) released the following statement:

“Ford and his Conservatives continue to ignore the growing crisis in Ontario’s childcare while children and families are left to pay the price," said Armstrong. "Across the province, parents are stuck on waitlists, and childcare centres are struggling to stay staffed because early childhood educators are overworked, underpaid, and leaving the sector in alarming numbers.

“New Democrats warned this government about the workforce crisis years ago and put forward real solutions, including a dedicated workforce strategy, but the Conservatives dismissed those ideas as unnecessary. Now, communities like Peterborough are seeing the consequences firsthand, with thousands of children still waiting for access to care. Minister Calandra and Premier Ford need to stop pretending this problem will fix itself and finally deliver support and respect childcare workers."
