Confederate flag has no place in our community

Published on February 18, 2022

LONDON — London MPPs Terence Kernaghan (London North Centre), Peggy Sattler (London West) and Teresa Armstrong (London-Fanshawe) released the following statement on reports of a Confederate flag flying on a London-area property:

“Londoners should not have to contend with Confederate flags or any other symbol of hate in our community. No racialized person should have doubts about whether they are welcome here in London, nor should they fear for their safety because of their skin colour. The Confederate flag has no place in London or anywhere else.

We have to remain vigilant in fighting racism, white supremacy and hate in all its forms. That means making it clear that flying the Confederate flag is unacceptable, and standing with Black Londoners and others who are harmed by its display. If that flag is still up, the owners must take it down immediately."
