People are getting crushed under the skyrocketing cost of living. It’s shameful that food bank use has hit a record high on Doug Ford’s watch. Food banks were first created as a temporary community response, but more than 40 years later, they’re relied on to fill gaps created by budget cuts and bad public policy.
It’s time to deal with the cost of living crisis and help families so they don’t have to keep turning to the food bank. We need to double social assistance rates, bring back and expand rent control and crack down on price gouging in the grocery aisle.
