Cuts mean higher costs for London families, more problems for organizations like Merrymount

Published on January 11, 2019

Terence Kernaghan, MPP for London North Centre, released the following statement in response to news that Merrymount is facing a funding shortfall:

“When the province shortchanges organizations like Merrymount, London families have to foot the bill. Merrymount offers a range of services for families during times of crisis or transition and is an incredibly vital service which keeps families together. But the government is taking things from bad to worse by making huge cuts to social services and children’s programming. This is only going to mean higher costs for the people of London and more problems for organizations like Merrymount.

The government has already cut $330 million from mental health funding. Wait lists are already far too long for kids to get mental health programming and treatment in London, and this will only make it worse.”
